CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Champions League is the most prestigious club competition in the world, as it brings together the best on the continent. It has been held since 1955, the year in which it was created by UEFA.

The format of the competition has undergone slight changes over the years. Currently, after the qualifying phase is played, all 32 qualified teams participate in the final phase of the Champions League. These are divided into eight groups of four teams and play double rounds between them. The first and second classified of the league advance to the elimination rounds (eighth, quarterfinal and semifinal); which are played back and forth until reaching the grand final tournament.

The 32 teams that participate in the final phase of the Champions League come to it in two ways; directly through the position held in their domestic league or by having passed the previous phase of the competition.
Each league corresponds to a number of places in the tournament. Some of these are direct and others serve to participate in that previous phase.

The number of teams from each country participating in the competition depends on the coefficient that UEFA assigns to each of the leagues. This number varies depending on the results of the national teams in the continental competition. That is, the better the performance of a country’s teams in the Champions League; the more clubs from those leagues will be able to access it.

The 32 teams that play the final phase of the Champions League; start the group round in September and finish it in December. Later, before the qualifying rounds, there is a break. Eighths, quarters and semifinals are played in the months of February and spring. Finally, the grand final takes place in late May or early June.
