Ronald Koeman will watch today’s Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich with special interest. The new Barca coach will be very attentive to the evolution of Philippe Coutinho (27 years old); a Barca player on loan to Bayern but whose loan ends today after the grand final in Lisbon. And the thing is that the Barcelona club gave it to Bayern until the end of the season; and the Champions League final is the last game of it. Therefore, starting tomorrow Coutinho will officially belong to FC Barcelona again. And in that scenario, Ronald Koeman has a lot to say.
The Dutch Barca coach would like to have Coutinho in his plans for next season. For this reason, he wants to speak personally with the playmaker; after the final tonight to find out what his future plans are. The Brazilian international has a contract with FC Barcelona until 2023; after the Cule entity signed him in January 2018; and signed him for five and a half years in exchange for a fixed payment of 120 million-plus another 40 million in different variables. In this sense, according to the Barca club, if Coutinho wins the Champions League today; he will not have to pay a variable of five million euros to Liverpool for that concept.
In any case, and returning to the essentials; the reality is that Koeman would like to have a player of the quality of Coutinho to reinforce his midfield; a line in which weight losses such as Ivan Rakitic and Arturo are expected. Vidal two of the footballers who are among the transferable, and in which Arthur Melo’s is already confirmed.
Until now Miralem Pjanic has joined and Riqui Puig will remain in the first team . Then there is the unknown of a Sergio Busquets who does not seem to be one of the footballers that the new Barca coach wants to be. In any case, and taking into account the difficulties of the current market derived from the coronavirus pandemic, Koeman has Coutinho.
They coincided in the Premier
It is difficult to obtain for him the money that Barca would need so that the signing was not a deficit in accounting terms and also Koeman knows his quality very well. And it is that Ronald trained in the Premier (two years at Southampton and two at Everton, from 2014 to 2018); when Coutinho played for Liverpool and, therefore, has been able to see in first person the good benefits that the Brazilian can offer.
It remains to be seen what is the reaction of the current Bayern Munich player; who after a good start for Barca in the second half of the 2017-18 season, heard whistles during 2018-19 and decided not to continue in the Barca discipline. Coutinho did not feel comfortable because he was not a starter; he did not play in Iniesta’s position (the one they told him he was going to occupy when they signed him) and; he was badly criticized by the Barca fans and the press. Now, Koeman can give you a second chance.
