PSG vs Metz: Draxler avoids another stumble from PSG

PSG vs Metz (1-0): A lone goal by Julian Draxler in injury time against Metz gave PSG their first Ligue 1 win after starting with two losses to Lens (1-0) and Marseille (0-1). The French champion overcame the absences. The expulsion of Abdou Diallo and the injury of Juan Bernat that left him with nine players in the final moments to add his first three points at the last gasp.

PSG returned to play with many casualties since Kylian Mbappe, still in quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19, was joined by Neymar, Layvin Kurzawa, and Leandro Paredes, sent off in the classic bronco against Marseille on Sunday. Marco Verratti and Thilo Kehrer, both with adductor discomfort, and newcomer Alessandro Florenzi, who was not registered when the match was postponed.

Good game for PSG in the first half

PSG was launched in order to make up for its three defeats in a row (against Lens and Marseille as well as the Champions League final against Bayern last season) and offered in the first half a game with a lot of mobility in the attack, constant combinations and continuous arrivals, but the goal resisted him.

In the presence of Neymar in the stands and the rest of the absent, Angel Di Maria and Pablo Sarabia showed a good understanding and moved with great danger along with Julian Draxler behind Mauro Icardi; who reappeared after overcoming his Covid-19 positive to Like Keylor Navas and Marquinhos.

The two best chances of the first half were traced as they came in two centers from the left of Di Maria that Icardi finished slightly high in minutes 12 and 33. Metz, locked in their area, defended well, their goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja was superb in his interventions, but caused problems in the sporadic outings against his points Habibou Diallo and Farid Boulaya, whom Keylor prevented from scoring by throwing himself at his feet (25′).

The last chance of the first half was given by Draxler, who stood before Oukidja, but the Algerian goalkeeper blocked the shot on his way out (39 ‘).

Red to Abdou Diallo

In the resumption, PSG slowed down, it cost them more to make their way through the increasingly established Metz defense, and the game was put uphill after staying at a disadvantage when defender Abdou Diallo saw the second yellow after cutting off the advance of Ibrahima Niane (65 ‘).

Despite playing with ten, PSG turned upside down again in the final stretch and had several chances. His first shot of the second half came in the 77th minute, but Icardi’s attempt, after a cross from Draxler from the left, was centered and Oukidja rejected it with his body. The Metz goalkeeper also repelled a forced shot by Di Maria with his left foot after a remake (79’).

Colin Dagba tried it with an internship culminating with an excessively crossed kick before Juan Bernat. Who jumped onto the field in the 63rd minute, retired injured without Thomas Tuchel replacing him in the last moments. Already in the discount, Youssef Maziz had the 0-1 with a shot that did not enter by very little, but Metz, brave in the end seeing themselves in superiority, bent the knee is the only error of Oukadja. The goalkeeper went out to prevent Icardi from reaching across from Di Maria but left the ball so that Draxler, with a header, saved PSG with his goal on an empty goal.
